The 99ths as a group had it's start in a single day and a single knight.
It was xx/xx/xxxx during a regular deployment for the knight and their squad, they had been engaged against a [REDACTED] armoured force they all knew that it was dangerous but they followed their orders... it was going as normal as expected there were many infantry casualties this can't be avoided when a armoured division is deployed to the battle field those who weren't mortally wounder might have the chance to live if they could get medical attention.. the founder of the 99th knew this but given the situation and lack of proper training their squad couldn't defend the wound they just weren't trained to do this it still pained our knight though.
As the battle raged on the Maxelian's front line was weakened due to lack of resources the knights squad was on the back foot they knew that some of them weren't likely to survive this day... but they kept on; they were engaged by a squad of [REDACTED] gunwalkers the battle wasn't very long only about 30 minutes but in those 30 minutes both squads were reduced to 1, our knight and their gunwalker and one [REDACTED] knight and their gunwalker, both were weakened, gunwalkers damaged and knights injured. But our knight wasn't going to let the sacrifice of their squad be in vain, it was over quickly, our knight landed one good shot right through the canopy of the [REDACTED] gunwalker, it fell limp as both the knight and its power source were snuffed out in an instant.
Our knight disembarked and ran as quickly as they could towards one of the wrecks of her fallen comrades, gunwalkers and pulled open the hatch; they were barely alive and bleeding out... there wasn't any medics near by nor did our knight have anything to help their squad mate all our knight could do was hold their friend in their arms as they slowly faded.
Our knight swore they wouldn't let this happen again and signed up for the medical corps, they received training in basic field medicine and excelled, they quickly made their way through the ranks in the medical corps they did miss their armoured squad and wanted to get back in the cockpit but this work was more satisfying saving the lived of their fellow soldier but it wasn't enough they knew that if they could just get back in the gunwalker that they could do so much more, protect the injured and help them when it was safe... but it'd never work out as is and so our ex knight returned to their higher ups and suggested a armoured division of the medical corps, trained in battle and medicine.
It took some time before the idea ever made it anywhere but it was a favourable idea to many and gained traction over time and eventually the knight was now the head of there very own armoured battalion, at first they were only equipped with basic kits and some medical supplies but our knight knew this was enough if the 99th were to be a success, and so they lobbied to get the 99th gunwalkers fitted specifically so they could hold medical supplies and be outfitted to act as a sort of ambulance in due time they received the funding and training and they weren't a group you could scoff at both in combat and the medical field.

[REPORT AUDIO recorded by 'Jack']
during the battle we were outnumbered and out gunned. we were pushed back into a small town where wee were encircled, the remaining troops put up what little resistance they could but the men were wounded badly and morale was low and we had all accepted fate we had sent several distress calls out and they were finally answered the 99th Battalion was mobilised on out location, they managed to push back [REDACTED] enough to give us a reprieve, see this opportunity they split their forces into combatants and a medical team, they took the mortally wounded away on their gunwalkers... (personal note: never thought I'd see it, a gunwalker "ambulance") and the other provided expert medical aid, some of the best I've seen in the field... they were our guardian angels if not for them we would've either ended up dead or as POW's
